Interview
Interviewer: Hello, Sprite im grateful that you are willing to take your time and do this interview. So first question when did you find out you had Klinefelter syndrome?
Sprite: Its not a problem, The first time was when I was 14 years old and I realised that i had breasts that looked like a woman's and so i told my parents and decided to get it check out and so we went to a hospital. The doctors ran some tests. This happened in September. The test results came out later in October and that was when I found out.
Interviewer: Whats was it like when you found out you had Klinefelter Syndrome and have you even heard of it at the time? How did you feel when you were diagnosed with Klinefelter syndrome?
Sprite: I was shocked and I but later on, I actually started to feel relieved. I finally understood why I struggled to fit in when i was younger and why my testicles were so small when growing up. My life was filled with frustrations and this was an answer as to why I always felt that way. I had also never heard about it at the time but i did alot of research and i found out that all of the symtoms applied to me.
Interviewer: What were you like as a child?
Sprite: My parents say that I was born a happy baby although i never felt that way in the past. They say that I was also very obedient and never gave them a hard time. However, I have always been quite shy and reserved and had trouble making friends especially during my early childhood.
Interviewer: What were some of the difficulties you had while growing up?
Sprite: Everyone knew that there was something not quite right with me. We visited all sorts of doctors but none of them could give us a solution to help improve this syndrome. In school, teachers would easily get frustrated at teaching me and always thought i didn't pay attention when really i just couldn't concentrate, I never had friends. Teachers would say that I was failing because I was lazy. Reading and writing was not easy for me. I was always falling behind all my classmates with my class work. My learning disabilities made my life very difficult during schooling years. I was also weaker than the other boys my age and was constantly bullied. It was challenging keeping up with the sports the other kids participated in. I also fell into depression at one point and kept myself isolated from everyone else.
Interviewer: What were some of the physical differences you noticed between you and other males?
Sprite: I was usually much taller than all the other boys and it seemed like I looked very different from the rest of them. Puberty was when I started to develop breasts and my testicles were very small in size. While everyone around me seemed to be growing facial hair, I didn't have a single strand of hair on my face
Interviewer: One of the symtoms of Klienfelter syndrome is that you sperm production is very low, how do you feel about this?
Sprite: When i got married my wife and I were quite devastated when we heard the news because we were planning on starting a family and i never knew that the disease causes you to have very little sperm production. The idea of not having my own children made me sad. It was a stressful time for us and after heavily looking into it, we found an infertility clinic which provided us with lots of assistance. I recently gave some of my sperm to them and i am still awaiting the test results and although i dont know the results yet I want to thank god that I have managed to get through the tough times of the past.
Interviewer: What is your life like now?
Sprite: Currently, I have my own family with my wife and 2 kids. Treatment has helped me with a lot of the challenges. Though I had trouble with my studies in the past, I worked hard and now have multiple degrees in business and I am a stockbroker. My life is quite ordinary just like other males my age. I am 35 years of age
